Loud & Lifted Podcast

I had the please of speaking with Betsy Hamm on her podcast, “Loud & Lifted”, in a relatively short timeframe we touched upon various subjects from my elated journey of winning gold at Tokyo 2021, to my biggest struggles in the build up to Paris 2024, which include burn out and painful growing pains in becoming a team player and a leader, and the techniques that kept me moving forward.

Betsy & I met at the WeConnect women’s conference just a couple months ago in State College, I was impressed to find out she worked with the likes of Hershey Park and Duck Doughnuts (my favourites!), and excited to learn about her passion project the Loud & Lifted podcast. Her episodes often revolve around women in leadership, communication, navigating the corporate environment & overall excellence in everyday life, a lot of transferable lessons between our two worlds.

The subjects we talk about:

  • How I went from new BMX rider to Olympic track fast (without “waiting until I was ready”)

  • The tools I use to stay calm under pressure: breathing + visualisation + thought rehearsal

  • Why “I have to be the best in the room” is a trap (and what to do instead)

  • Individual sport vs. team energy—and how I learned to drop ego and embrace support

  • The confidence reframe every woman in leadership needs: comparison → admiration
