Renewable Energy Powering Action Sports
An incredible collaboration with British Gas in partnership with Centrica in their campaign “Energy For Tomorrow”, which involves raising funds for local British sports clubs, and supporting them with renewable energy such as solar panels. I’ve seen many skateparks struggle with the financial burden of keeping the lights on, this is simply a great idea. I felt honoured to be partnered with The Skatefarm on their fundraising journey.
Before I made the trip to the UK, part of the EFT campaign (Energy For Tomorrow), I was using my social presence to encourage generous donors to add to the Skatefarm Crowdfund pot, to which Centrica would then donate £2 for every £1 raised… Meaning for a donation of £10 Centrica would contribute an additional £20! British Gas hand picked some incredible Team GB athletes for this one, each partnered with a local club to raise funds for. I love being a part of a campaign that does some real good too.
I believe to total raised for Skatefarm was £17,000!
Skatefarm owner, Tom, along with all the attendees were like a happy family, where they practice fun and self expression like religion, that’s your right of passage at this park. They were so welcoming, and I knew instantly our values aligned, so I was excited to connect with the young riders to tell them this is also how I started! No giant goals like winning gold medals or being better than anyone, just love of the sport and my expression of it.
Whilst I’ve seen many skateparks come and go, with thanks to Centrica & British Gas, and The Skatefarm’s strong community and values bigger than skateboarding, this little gem isn’t going anywhere. 48 hours in the motherland (England) to promote an excellent cause was a pleasure, thank you British Gas & Team GB for the opportunity.
